We invite you to the edge of a small village of Milęcice, located near Lubomierz in southwestern Poland, at the foot of the West Sudeten, in land of the Jizera Hills.
Due to the beautiful landscape, gentle slopes covered with forests and rivers meandering in the valleys this land is often called the “Polish Tuscany” by tourists.
The Jizera Mountains, which is the westernmost range of the Sudeten Mountains, is one of those few places in Poland that have only been transformed very little by human activity.
Here you will find everything that a busy city resident needs to feel on true vacation. You will experience uncontaminated nature – beautiful views framed by high mountains with gentle hills in the foreground, forests brimming with animals and mushrooms, clear rivers and lakes inviting you to swim or fish, meadows full of flowers, pastures with herds of horses and cows, and even…. extinct (thankfully!) volcanoes…
The house is located on a 10 hectare ecological farm, specializing in breeding Silesian horses.
The farm is a closed enclave among forests, fields and meadows, away from other human settlements.
More than 5 hectares of land around the buildings is fenced so kids can safely play around.
Guests can find peace here in many ways – calm down, feel the slower passage of time, devote themselves to things that require silence and concentration, or do the opposite – spend time actively or do sports.
Living with us are three dogs, which, while absolutely friendly, form a pack already. That is why we ask you not to bring your own dogs with you, for your own comfort and safety of your animals.
Our current guest house was built in the 19th century as a stone farmhouse – the main part of the ground floor was occupied by a barn. The first floor and the attic were used for storing agricultural crops – grain and hay.
In a separated part of the ground floor there was also a place for agricultural machinery such as plows, blowers, slicers or threshers. Some of these devices have survived to our times and can be seen as exhibits on the premises.
In 2015 we reconstructed the building and thoroughly modernized it, we also exposed fragments of old, beautiful stone walls and some steel elements. We did this with the goal of preserving the authentic atmosphere of an old farm and to emphasise the original purpose of the rooms.
We built a living room with a kitchen and a dining area in the former barn, complete with a large fireplace and comfortable armchairs and sofa. On the first floor there are two bedrooms with adjacent bathrooms, and one apartment suite with a kitchen, a living room and a bedroom.
We do not know the exact origins of our farm, but it was probably built in the 17th-18th century as the backbone of a “lime factory” – the remains of the quarry in which the raw material was extracted (limestone rock), are visible just outside the property. On the farm there is a lime kiln, a beautiful monument of technical culture from the old days, and brick pits (bathtubs) to extinguish it.
These facilities are now being restored, but you can view them from the outside.
Our stable, once a residential and farming building, is as old as the lime kiln. It is located in a historic stone building from the 17th–18th century. Guests can enter the building attended.
We breed horses of the Silesian breed in the so-called old type (without the addition of full English blood). For those interested, there is an opportunity to participate in daily activities related to horse care, after individual arrangements and with assistance. Currently, we have 5 horses of the Silesian breed on the farm – 4 mares and a gelding.
We do not have a horse riding school for guests, but we do run a horse boarding business – to horse owners we offer attractive discounts in our guesthouse.
Our farm – because of the location on the fringe and the absence of cats – is also home to a large number of birds. Nesting here are swallows (Hirundininae, mainly in the stable), tits (Paridae), nuthatches (Sittinae), buntings (Emberizidae), field sparrows (mazurkas, Passer montanus), robins (Erithacus rubecula), wrens (Troglodytidae), goldfinches (Carduelis carduelis), cinderellas (Phoenicurus ochruros), woodpeckers (Picidae), wagtails (Motacillidae), as well as serious predators – buzzards (Buteo buteo) and owls (Striginae).
Sometimes other birds visit, including greenfinches (Chloris chloris), siskins (Spinus spinus), hawfinches (Coccothraustes) and bullfinches (Pyrrhula pyrrhula). Last winter, a flock of redpolls (Acanthis flammea) visited our feeders.
Flora-lovers will find here dozens of different plants – flowers, shrubs and trees. We planted, among others, shrubs attracting butterflies, bees and bumblebees.
What draws your attention immediately on our farm is a huge chestnut tree (150-200 years old, trunk circumference 4 m). In May its blossoming crown will bring joy to your eyes… and ears, with the music of hundreds of bees and bumblebees.
Inside the former quarry there is a site of a very rare species of ferns, and on the farm grows a dozen or so bushes of spurge laure (Daphne mezereum) – under partial conservation protection.
On our meadows you can meet a Polish orchid: heath spotted orchid or moorland spotted orchid (Dactylorhiza maculata). This plant is also under partial conservation protection and placed among endangered species on the Red List of plants and fungi of Poland.
In the old ages, the custom was to plant a linden tree near the house when a girl was born in the family, and a chestnut tree – when it was a boy.
The remains of the yard designed in accordance with that custom can be seen on the neighboring plot where our horses now graze – unfortunately the house that stood there did not survive. Now only the linden tree and the chestnut tree, both of impressive size, give us an idea of what this place could look like 200 years ago …
